FROM THE DESK OF TCA: two year bloggyversary!

Holy moly guys!

It’s our two year bloggyversary!!!

This feels bigger than my own birthday (which I make a pretty big deal about, btw) as this past year the TCA has seen so much excitement and growth, so many new connections made with crafty peeps and projects, and so much development of momentum for the future.

Allow me to wax nostalgic about some amazing stuff that has gone down over the past year for the Toronto Craft Alert and Toronto Craft in general.

• Millions of new craft enterprises have sprung up all over the city, like The Purple Purl, the workroom, Heart on Your Sleeve, Kid Icarus, and the Contemporary Textile Coop Studio (to name just a few).
• So many amazing shows and exhibitions were held. Really too many to review here.
• We attended the first annual Craft Congress in Pittsburgh, meeting with brilliant crafty organizers from across North America & Britain.
• We met with some very smart local crafty folks to discuss Toronto related craft issues for Craftchat T.O.
• We ventured to New York to check out Etsy headquarters, indie craft fairs, exhibitions & yummy textile shops.
• We consulted on and participated in Craft Up, YYZ gallery’s month long craft-themed program.
• We co-founded City of Craft, a craft community collective that hosts crafty culture events in the city. December 1^st’s City of Craft show was a mammoth success!
• We’ve brought you some exciting new features like Questions for Crafters which profiles local craft movers & shakers, and Craft Toronto Pics where stuff you make (& upload to our flickr group) is posted on the blog.
• So many more plans are being hatched for future awesomeness. Just you wait…

Most of the above happened because I started leaving my house more often to attend the events posted here and meet some of you amazing folks. I encourage you all to do the same – there is so much fun & inspiration to be found about town. Hope to see even more of you out there!
