Artistri Atelier-Boutique

Our Montreal Correspondent Pamela Grimaud has send along a bunch of great crafty stuff to keep you Montrealers (or visitors to la belle provence) busy this winter.

2008 Arts & Crafts Fair at Villa Maria
This is Villa Maria's 8th Annual Craft Fair in support of the school's Bursary Fund. Over 40 professional artists and artisans come together, including Sandra Tatsuko Kadowaki (recently featured on TCA), Annie Legroulx' hand-painted bicycle bells, and Genia Chep's (delightful) winter accessories made from recycled woolens.

The fair takes place on Friday, November 28 from 3-9 pm, and Saturday the 24th from 10 am to 4 pm. Villa Maria High School is located at 4245 Decarie Boulevard, right next to Villa Maria Metro. Admission is free; for more information call (514) 484-4950 or visit the website, where you can pull up the official Craft Fair program.

I Want to Tell You Everything - Andrea Vander Kooij
Montreal-based artist Andrea Vander Kooij's exhibition I Want to Tell You Everything is on view at Diagonale, Centre des arts et des fibres du Quebec. The exhibition is the result of years of accumulation of discarded textiles and months of embroidery, repurposed and embellished found quilts and bed sheets upon which heroic battles are fought between opposing factions of cartoon characters. Handwritten lists and notes are enlarged and embroidered, allowing us to ponder them at length.

The center is located at 5455, rue de Gaspé, espace 203. Phone is (514) 524-6645. The exhibition runs until November 29th. For details and directions, visit the Diagonale here and be sure to take a peek at Andrea's home page:

The McCord is located at 690 Sherbrooke Street West, and is easy to visit via McGill metro station or the #24 bus. For information, call 514-398-7100 and for directions, visit

Artistri artisan workshops
Artistri Atelier-Boutique is a new gallery and boutique featuring unique, handcrafted gifts, accessories and housewares in an environment that forges links between artisans and their work, and those who acquire it. Fair trade, sustainability and the support of talented women in Quebec, Canada and throughout the developing world are the heart of Artistri's mission.
