The Gladstone Hotel's 3rd annual juried textile exhibition Hard Twist opens in conjunction with pieceWORK, a weekend-long show and sale of work by fibre artists.

Love may make the world go round, but twist holds it together.

Following on from last year's BIG FIBRE/little fibre exhibition that asked whether size matters in matters textile, Hard Twist explores the manifold and marvelous ways twist operates in the world of fibre.

Tightly-wound or softly spun, bent, hung or strung out, the works in the show reference a wild variety of issues: including the musings of Canada's first official hangman, a Queen St. West crawl, sharks, dandelions and motherhood (sans apple pie), sports memorabilia and coral reefs, threaded together by their common dependence on twist for coherence and structural integrity.

The first human who twisted a few strands together to make them longer and stronger had no idea of the force she had unleashed upon the world!

The Gladstone Hotel's second annual pieceWORK show and sale showcases a diverse group of artists working in textile and fibre based mediums. Participating artists will present unique artist-made objects, wearables, fashion accessories, and home décor items for sale. pieceWORK takes place in the hotel's 2nd floor exhibition rooms.
