CRAFTY HAPPENING: collage party and crafty show & tell

Two exciting announcements from TCA:

1. PAUL BUTLER COLLAGE PARTY

Well here's something fun: TCA is acting as a media sponsor for the upcoming
Paul Butler Collage Party. The opening is taking place on Sunday, March 9th from 1-4pm at the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery at Hart House (UofT), and the festivities continue with drop-ins encouraged until March 12th.

For those of you unfamiliar with Mr. Butler's collage jam sessions, the concept is pretty simple:

gallery + people + music + tons of magazines and other supplies + spontaneous art-making = good time

This is actually the final stage of Butler's project, where the public (that's you!) is welcome to riff on work created by the Collage Party Artist Team* that have been invited to hang out in the gallery making stuff for days prior, in an artist sanctuary of sorts. During this time the gallery is transformed into a communal studio space, a nurturing environment away from the confines of the art scene, where these artists are free to eat together, play, hang out, experiment and exchange ideas.

This creative space is then opened up to you beginning March 9th. At the opening you can chat with the artists and engage in your own collage experimentations (no experience required!). Drop by during gallery hours until March 12 to listen to music, collaborate, and get your hands dirty. Materials are provided to you and you can bring your own to add to the mix if so inspired.

*Collage Party Artist Team: Micah Lexier, Derek Sullivan, Roula Partheniou, Maura Doyle, Tyler Clark-Burke, Sandy Plotnikoff, Anitra Hamilton, Kristan Horton, Dave Dyment, Zin Taylor, Kerri Reid, Katie Bethune-Leamen, Jon Sasaki and more...

2. SHOW & TELL

In a like effort to create a non-judgemental space for sharing ideas and creations, a Show & Tell presented by Toronto Craft Alert, Susan Rowe Harrison & City of Craft will take place in the gallery on Tuesday March 11 from 5:30-7:30p. The Show & Tell is a casual opportunity to come together to show what you've been working on and get a peek into others' craft practises. [This will also be an opportunity to check out the work created during the Collage Party - show up early to contribute!] If you are interested in coming please RSVP to susanroweharrison@gmail.com with a general idea of what you plan to share.
