CRAFTY BIZ: shopgirls gallery & boutique

ShopGal_BizCards_V1

SHOPGIRLS is a newish gallery & boutique in Parkdale (aka West Queen West), located right beside the workroom. A few weeks ago I spent awhile in the spacious-yet-cozy shop, chatting craft with the owner and one of the artists. I really respect their mandate, and hope that you will have a chance to check out the shop, or perhaps one day even sell your work there.

They are having a Grand Opening event on Saturday, February 9th from 11am – 6pm where you can meet over 30 local artists and designers whose works are showcased in the space. The first 100 people to attend the event will have a chance to win one of six hand-crafted pieces donated by members of the SHOPGIRLS Artist Circle. For more info on the event, contact info@shopgirls.ca or visit www.shopgirls.ca

Here’s more about the shop:

SHOPGIRLS Gallery Boutique strives to promote local and Canadian undiscovered artists and designers. This creative retail and studio space not only sells beautiful pieces, but as importantly, the talent behind them. Artists who are members of the Artist Circle are encouraged to work in the open studio space where customers are able to watch as creations come to life. The product assortment is unique in that it is for the most part, handcrafted and one-of-a-kind. Jewellery, Art, Accessories, Fashion and even Home Décor and Furniture, all are showcased in a very original and welcoming retail environment.

As stated by owner and curator Michelle Germain, “Our mission is to bring Canadian design to the forefront. The talent is evident, but the opportunities are not. We believe in home grown talent and want to nurture and promote unique artists and their products.”
