fiber art in our nation's capital

Melanie of Spins&Needles wrote to let us know about an interactive craft event happening at the Canadian Musuem of Civilization in Ottawa this weekend.

Crafty field trip, anyone?

Early Frost Janet Morton
Early Frost, Janet Morton (2004)

On August 4 and 5, head to the Canadian Museum of Civilization and help artist Janet Morton create a whimsical garden using textiles, knitting and other non-traditional materials.

Janet Morton has been exhibiting nationally and internationally since 1992. She has received numerous awards for her textile-based work that playfully and critically examines our relationship with the natural world, everyday objects and equations that link time to "value."

Morton's work can be seen on the Canadian Centre for Contemporary Art's Website: www.ccca.ca.

This activity is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Unique! 30 Years of Outstanding Crafts, where 120 examples of Canada's finest crafts made by the country's most accomplished and creative craftspeople are on display until August 5, 2007.
