Harbourfront Centre Contemporary Craft Series

A dynamic and lively series (including lectures, exhibitions, master classes and seminars), Innovators and Ideas addresses the current issues and needs within the contemporary craft field by inviting artists, curators and writers who are spear-heading contemporary practice and sparking innovative investigation. Guest artists and speakers are invited from around the corner and across the universe.

Four artists-in-residence will give illustrated lectures, detailing their work and career development.

Felieke van der Leest
Lecture:
The ZOO of Life

Jeweller Felieke van der Leest debuts with a solo exhibition at Harbourfront Centre. van der Leest was born in The Netherlands and trained at the Gerrit Rietveld Art Academy Jewellery Department in Amsterdam. She currently lives in the Norwegian countryside. Her work is a fantastical blend of traditional gold-smithing, crochet, knitting and found plastic toys. The book, Sieradenfables/Jewellery Fables was recently published, covering the past ten years of her career.


Paola Poletto, curator of Fashion no-no
Lecture:
Fashion no-no: protyping and processing

Paola Poletto is an artist coordinator, mixed media and installation artist, writer and curator. Her work includes program direction for Design Exchange (2000-2008) and co-founder of Kiss Machine (2000-2008) before joining the Office of Arts and Culture of the City of Mississauga in 2008. She is curator of Fashion no no, an exhibition exploring the relationship between art, design and craft at Harbourfront Centre, Toronto, January 24 - March 8.
