nanopod: Hybrid Studio workshops & course are structured but not hindered by formality or pre-requisite abilities; Tosca provides an environment in which individual creativity is nurtured and small ideas can flourish to great work in an exceptionally short period of time.

Beginning Jewelry
next course starts Wednesday, September 17
6 wks, 6:30pm to 9:30pm $195 (+ approximately $50 material fee for stones, silver)

week #1: First evening: working with copper, drilling, sawing, soldering, plus studio safety.
week #2: Making a band ring out of silver (stamp, hammer finish, roller print)
week #3: Working with wax create a piece(s) using wax (to be cast in silver)
week #4: cuttlebone casting, findings (ear wires, pin backs, bails, jump rings)
week #5: bezel setting a stone, make another piece incorporating techniques from the course.
week #6: finish up projects (4 hour evening)

Silver for 1 ring band is included, copper & brass is included. No experience necessary!

Tuesday, Oct. 7th 6:30-9:30pm, 10 weeks, 1 evening per week
*Learn a new technique every evening*

$340 per person, 5 people per course. A minimum of 9 pieces made per person.

Working with copper, the 1st evening starts off with an introduction to some of the tools used throughout the course learning piercing, sawing & soldering.

2nd evening introduces sterling silver and how to calculate and form a ring band- using the rolling mill, stamping, adding texture to the metal is demonstrated.

3rd week introduces lost wax casting through carving and sculpting wax to be cast in sterling silver or brass.

4th week finish up wax carvings, alternative lo-tech casting, clean up castings.

5th week clean castings, stone setting {bezel-set stone for a ring or pendant}.

6th week forming, basic enameling on copper.

7th week flameworking glass- sculpt and form molten glass into beads, focal pieces, small sculptures.

8th week Design a piece incorporating techniques taught throughout course- fusing glass (make a pendant or cabochon)

9th week Work on your new design, flamework.

10th evening finish up projeccts!

Absolutley NO experience is necessary for this course!

$340 includes copper, sterling silver for 1 ring sterling for stone settings, stones are inlcuded (feel free to bring your own stones), wax, enamel, and all glass.

Does anyone know of a good company with reasonable prices that can produce custom fabricated metal castings?
