TALK AMONGST YOURSELVES

well it's been a few weeks since the last water cooler. i think right now i'd really like to cool off in some water... what is everyone out there doing to stay cool?
as part of the Toronto Craft Alert's goal to galvanize the city's craft community, we'd like to get a bit of a discussion going. discuss any crafty topic you like... we'll be re-posting this thread every monday morning, so that the discussions can continue in the comments section of this post.

We tried to go swimming at Woodbine beach on Canada Day and it was TOO cold to even go in! Still had a nice picnic, but I was surprised how cold the water was. It would have felt pretty nice today though! We'll have to try again soon....

We had a picnic in High Park. We found a nice shady spot, packed a yummy lunch, and had fun playing Scrabble & Boggle.

I think this will be our new Sunday ritual!

i think i may have rhapsodized about this on the blog in the past (or thought about it anyhow), but trees are such amazing air conditioners! kind of obvious, but it never really hit home until we moved to an upperlevel apartment without aircon or airflow (we have big windows, but all on one side). the last two summers we spent many days in the park reading, stitching, whittling, and soaking up temperatures that must be a good 10-15 degrees cooler than out of the treeshade. magic!

We went to Cherry beach on Canada day, but only the dogs went swimming. My apartment tends to stay quite cool since all the windows are usually shaded by trees or the neighbouring houses, but the poor dogs feel the heat much more intensely, what with the fur coats and all...
Saturday evening I spend some time crocheting a cotton cap for a vegan friend. It was quite nice.

Yay, water cooler is back! Hello everyone!

I don't get out much because I work too damn hard (at home), so I've been keeping cool in my basement which is where I have my studio. *sigh* It's hard to get out when you work at home... too much to do! It's usually pretty nice down here and today is actually the first day I've felt the need to turn on the A/C.

Or I go outside in my backyard which is completely blanketed by trees and is significantly cooler than the front of the house.
